KLM Projects Ltd.

Project Controls, Payroll System Implementation, Finance, Accounting & Cost Specialist

KLM has the expertise to help organizations fit the pieces together

Responsible for the management, tracking and accurate reporting of cost, schedule and planning related to activities on assigned projects, while ensuring project reporting is aligned with the company’s business practices, goals and objectives. Therefore, key components and functions are:

  • Implement project controls systems to track costs.
  • Ensure all costs and hours expended on the project are allocated to the correct budget accounts.
  • Validate contractor submittals for agreed-upon rates and correct coding.

Project Controls is the function to achieve successful project and program outcomes i.e. delivering required benefits to cost, time and performance. We manage data and analytics processes used to predict, understand and influence time and cost outcomes of projects or programs. Importantly, KLM deals with measuring and monitoring controlling variables such as:

  • Planning and Scheduling
  • Cost Tracking
  • Scope and Change Management
  • Support Document Control
  • Project Schedule Maintenance & Progress Reporting
  • Cost Analysis, Budget Management, Reporting and Forecasting
  • Administration Support
  • Project Management Support

Payroll Implementation Specialists have strong mathematical and computer skills, therefore work with clients to meet their payroll needs. It involves interacting with our clients to make sure they understand their business operations and determine with type of payroll system is best for the client.

Once identified, KLM will help you understand how to use your payroll system effectively. In addition to this, we teach our customers how to use the payroll system. If there is ever an issue, KLM will develop a fast and easy solution for you. We make sure to show you properly; all stages of the payroll implementation process, we are here to help you each step of the way.

Implementation Consultants have to perform the role by staying true to what the client’s interests are, and thereby build a relationship built on proven good faith and trust.

In terms of their responsibilities, the Implementation Consultant is in charge of understanding the client’s requirements and suggesting how best these requirements can be met by the proposed product or solution. While every proposed product and solution will have gaps, over-architecting the means to address gaps can be the biggest pit an Implementation Consultant can fall into.

In such situations, the goal of the Implementation Consultant should be to address all gaps via “configuration” rather than “customization”. Configuration level changes are made to settings that do not require the code to be rewritten and the executables to be rebuilt. Customization, on the other hand involves changes to the code which are custom built or specific to this implementation.

Keeping most changes to the Configuration realm will allow quick and effective changes to the product or solution rather than long drawn out changes which will require time, effort and money! Along with this strategy also allows the client to get the best out of a ready to ship product or solution.

All said and done, the role of the Implementation Consultant is tricky, complex and very influential. How well this role is played out can make all the difference between a successful implementation that is the canvas for a case study and one that turns out to be a disaster, retold for years to come about how things can go wrong.

Every Implementation Consultant has to play the base role of a Business Analyst over and above which they have to manage the direction of the implementation.

AMEC Area Manager for Site Services and Infrastructure
I had the opportunity to have Les Meyer on my team whilst I was AMEC Area Manager for Site Services and Infrastructure at the Rocanville Potash Corporation Expansion Project. One of the area's which was in our scope was Transportation. This was an all-encompassing transportation scope which included but was not limited to: Transport personnel daily to and from the work site to accommodation areas, provide support to the emergency evacuation plan. We had to transport daily in excess of one thousand personnel on a twenty four hour time frame (day and night shift operation). Les was a very important part of our team, and was an excellent team player. Some of Les’ responsibilities were as follows: - Conducted daily report & LEM review for man count and hours along with accurate hours and allowable charges. - Contract review with project services group. - Reporting to members of CMT concerning incurred costs vs. budget. - Change order review with contract managers along with establishing budgets for changes. - Invoice / payment certificate validation and preparation. - Monthly incurred cost forecast calculations + forecast cost to complete. - Contract expenditure reconciliation between client, client rep and contractor records as part of contact close out process. Les worked with the Site Services and Infrastructure Group his high attention to detail along with implementation of processes and procedures was very instrumental on the successful operation of the group to bring it in on schedule and under budget. I would certainly recommend Les.

I had the pleasure of working with Les during his time with SSMPG Integration Services. Les was instrumental with the deployment / implementation of our ADP payroll system, which was extremely comprehensive and challenging task. Through the diligence and hard work that Les provided, we we able to implement a successful payroll / HRIS system that worked well for our equipments. The service that Les provided to SSMPG on the project controls and finance side of things was very helpful to my requirements. Les had great enthusiasm and passion for his work and the needs of the business. I would not hesitate in providing my full recommendation to Les for any similar roles including specifically an ADP implementation program and would be happy to provide further feedback to anyone interested in pursuing an assignment with Les.
